Appointments and Online Consultations

We aim to provide timely and effective care for all patients. Our online consultation system is designed to ensure your case is reviewed and managed by the most appropriate healthcare professional.

How It Works

  • Submit an Online Consultation at the top of the page: Provide as much detail as possible about your symptoms or query. This helps the GP decide the best course of action:
    • Emergency Duty Doctor (same-day care)
    • Urgent appointment (same day)
    • Routine appointment (within 2 weeks)
    • Administrative help
    • Immediate resolution by the GP reviewing your case
  • Urgent Issues: For serious health concerns (especially involving babies or children) that don’t require 999, call reception. You will be placed directly on the Emergency Duty Doctor list.
  • Routine appointments: usually scheduled within two weeks. We do not offer bookings further in advance, as these often lead to high non-attendance rates. When submitting your request via the website, please include your preferred days, times, and clinician (if you have one) so we can do our best to accommodate your needs. In some cases, we may send you a booking link that allows you to choose and book directly into an available appointment slot.
  • Follow-up Appointments
If your GP has advised you to have a follow-up appointment, they may book the appointment during your consultation. If not, they’ll let you know to book it yourself online or by contacting reception. If you’re unsure, please call the surgery and we’ll be happy to help.

Timelines for Online Consultations

  • Submissions made between 06:30-18:30 (weekdays) will be reviewed by a GP the same day.
  • If your situation changes (e.g., a routine issue becomes urgent), please submit a new consultation or call reception for assistance.

Need Help Completing a Consultation?

If you cannot use the online system, our reception team can assist you by phone or in person.

Reception Lines Are Open

Our reception team is available for any queries or support. Please contact them if:

  • You need help completing an online consultation.
  • You have questions about appointments or processes.

Why Use Online Consultations?

This system ensures:

  • Urgent cases are prioritised and managed quickly.
  • Patients are seen by the most suitable GP or healthcare professional.
  • No need to queue outside or rush to book appointments online earlier

Patients arriving at 8:00 AM without a consultation will be asked to complete one online first.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to provide accessible, high-quality care for all.

Online Medical Requests in a GP Practice

Online medical requests provide a convenient way for patients to seek medical advice, request prescriptions, or book appointments without needing to call or visit the practice. Patients can submit their symptoms or queries via a secure online system, which is then reviewed by the GP or practice staff.

The process enables patients to:
Provide detailed descriptions of their symptoms or concerns.
Request non-urgent medical advice (available from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM on working days), repeat prescriptions, or referrals. Please use the submit a request button at the top of the page.
Access the service 24/7 for administrative queries, all from the comfort of their home..

Cancelling Appointments

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen.

If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Missed Appointments and DNA’s

Do you feel frustrated when you cannot get an appointment?

Every year wasted appointments cost NHS £162 million. This can cause serious delays in treatment for other patients. On average approximately 150 patients each month Did Not Attend (DNA) their appointment. This means the patient did not turn up for the appointment and did not contact the surgery in advance to cancel or change the appointment. This currently results in approximately 40 hours of wasted clinical time each month.

Extended hours

During the week (Monday-Friday 6:30pm – 8.00pm) you may be offered an appointment at another local GP practice within the Shoreditch Park & City Primary Care Network.

We work together in a number of ways to deliver services in your area. Through the week, you may be offered an appointment with a GP at one of our clinics in The Hoxton Surgery, De Beauvoir Surgery, The Lawson Practice and Shoreditch Park Surgery.

On a Saturday GP’s appointments are available between 9am & 5pm rotating each week at one of the above practices. To book one of these appointments, please contact your GP Surgery who will advise which Surgery to attend. All appointments are bookable 2-weeks in advance.

Shoreditch Park & City Offer a wide range of clinics across our 5 practices, including Physician Associates, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, Dietitian, Nurse, Healthcare Assistant, and Phlebotomy clinics also available in the extended hours clinics. Please visit the Shoreditch Park and city PCN website for more information.

Additional information

Can I bring someone to accompany me to the Appointment?

We are generally very happy for patients to bring with them a carer, relative or even a friend. This often helps, particularly when they know you well and it allows them to tell us any observations they would make about you, which can help us in undertaking our assessment. Ultimately this will lead us more quickly to make an accurate diagnosis and therefore help you more.

Also, having someone with you means they can prompt you to ask questions that you may have forgotten, and after the appointment they can help in reminding you what was discussed.

Occasionally we might ask for them to leave but this would be unusual.

If you require interpretation services please contact us in advance of you appointment and we will arrange this.

Chaperone Policy

We will always respect your privacy, dignity and your religious and cultural beliefs particularly when intimate examinations are advisable – these will only be carried out with your express agreement and you will be offered a chaperone to attend the examination if you so wish.

You may also request a chaperone when making the appointment or on arrival at the surgery (please let the receptionist know) or at any time during the consultation.

Giving Consent for Treatment

You have the right to accept or refuse treatment that is offered to you, and not to be given any physical examination or treatment unless you have given valid consent. If you do not have the capacity to do so, consent must be obtained from a person legally able to act on your behalf, or the treatment must be in your best interests.

Your valid consent (agreement to the course of action) is needed for the treatment that’s offered to you before any physical examinations or treatment can be given. If you haven’t given your consent, you can accept or refuse treatment that’s offered to you.

It’s important to be involved in decisions about your treatment and to be given information to help you choose the right treatment. When making treatment choices, you’ll often discuss the options with your doctor or another healthcare professional.

If you have a suspected infectious disease

Please inform reception if you suspect an infectious disease, as this will enable us to deal with it appropriately during your visit to protect you, other patients and staff.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and this will be arranged.

Private Medical Examinations

Medical examinations for special purposes such as pre-employment, fitness to travel, elderly drivers, fitness to undertake sports etc, will require longer than a routine appointment.

These examinations do not form part of NHS Services, you will be charged for any such examination. Please check the fee chargeable when you require to arrange any such examination.

Training Practice

Occasionally junior doctors and medical students are attached to the practice to learn about general practice. You may have an appointment with one of the junior doctors, or we may ask your permission for one of the medical students be present during the consultation or for your consultation to be filmed.

This will only ever happen with your full consent.

Which Doctor?

As a patient, you are registered with the practice, not an individual GP. You can make an appointment with any of the Doctors at the practice. As medical records are now computerised, all Doctors, at any site can access your details. If you prefer, you can make an appointment with a Doctor of your choice. You may need to wait longer to get an appointment with a specific Doctor of your choice, as they may be in high demand at the time.
